How to Remove Known VBA Password?

Following are The Steps to Clear Known VBA Passwords

  • Browse your Office document
  • Confirm upload of new document
  • Open the downloaded document file and press ALT + F11. Confirm any error messages that may appear.
  • In the macro editor window, don't expand the project, instead go to Tools > VBA Project Properties.
  • In the Protection tab, set a password of your choice and leave the box checked.
  • Save the document and completely close your Office application.
  • Open the saved document and use ALT + F11 again to open the code editor.
  • In the Macro editor window, do not expand the project, go to "Tools > VBA Project Properties" instead.
  • On the "Protection" Tab, clear the checkbox and password fields.
  • Save the document again.
  • The password is now removed and you can view or edit the code as if it had never been protected.

How to Remove VBA Password using Hex Editor?

Use a Hex Editor to Find and Replace "DPB" with "DPx"

Make sure you have a backup of the file in case something goes wrong.

  • If you're trying to unlock locked VBA file, open the file in the hex editor and look for the text string "DPB":
  • Now just click on the B in DPB and replace it with an "x"
  • Save and exit your hex editor.
  • Open the file - you may get some error messages, just click on it.
  • Open the Visual Basic window (usually ALT+F11 if I remember correctly) and open the VBAProject Properties (Tools menu).
  • Click the Protection tab and change the password (don't remove it yet) to a short and easy-to-remember password (we'll remove it in the next step).
  • Save the workbook, close it and reopen it.
  • Reopen the Visual Basic window and enter the password you just entered. Repeat the previous step, but this time you can remove (erase) the password.
  • Save the workbook and you have now removed the password.
